The Pistern Hill Autumal

A Photographic Walk

Sat or Sun, Nov 5th or 6th (best weather day)

Bring your camera and talk with Andrew and Chris about photography

(Details of the walk are being developed, but some are already in place - read on!)

Details of the Autumnal photo hike are being fleshed out. Some details are here already.

  • We’ve selected an early Nov weekend because it’s optimal for colour, and a moon rises towards the end of the walk.

  • There’s more detail below but basically, it’s Melbourne / Staunton Harold / Pistern Hill / Milking Palour / Calke / Derby Hills / Melbourne.

  • Walking boots, rain-proof and windproof, a fully-charged camera, payment cards for cafe-stops

  • You’ll probably have your camera out all the time. It’s autumn. We cross-cross low valleys and ridges so there is plenty to look at - all the time

How The Day Goes

Just another 8 hour day

Wakey wakey, we gather at 9 Blanch Croft at 8 am.
We walk out of Melbourne south, veer west to Staunton Harold for tea and bathroom break. We carry on south through South Wood up onto high farmland, then descend Pistern Hill towards The Milking Parlour for a late lunch and a beer. Easy on the beer; there is more walking to be done.

Post lunch, we go north into Calke Abbey and walk through the ancient woodlands in a grand winder-wander around Calke’s visual highlights (we are photographers after all). This could take some time.

We emerge from Calke north towards Derby Hills where we might see the moon rise (3:41), then finally turn back towards Melbourne as the night falls. We could be home by 4;15pm
We might even get to see some distant fireworks if we hang around.
We could possibly plan to return to Staunton Harold Saling Club for the bonfire and fireworks display (around 7pm).

Well, that’s the idea.
The detail is coming together
